SLC Closet and Organization Themes for Child Back-to-School

The fall is here, and for parents around Salt Lake City and other parts of Utah, this means the kids are back in school. While this is often an exciting time of year, it's also one that comes with a few new tasks or responsibilities -- and for some, it's an ideal time of year to do some organizing in a few important home areas.

At Precision Closets & Garage, organization is our specialty. We offer numerous custom closets and other storage types, including kid's closets if the time has come to upgrade your young child to a greater amount of storage space. Whether you're making this sort of upgrade or just looking to keep things in order during the busy return-to-school fall period, here are some general tips we can offer.

Kid Closet Setups

One of the most important organization areas for any parent as the new school year starts up: Your child's closet space. Whether you're upgrading them to a new closet or simply helping them organize their existing space, here are a few tips.

  • Focus on one closet at a time: By setting aside an afternoon to focus exclusively on your child's closet, you'll be able to make the most progress possible -- and if it's all done in one day, they won't have to worry about trying to locate items lost under another pile.
  • Blacks and whites first: Organize your child's clothing by color, starting with the basics: blacks, whites, and other neutrals. These are generally popular colors that everyone needs, so they'll be easy to find. Work on organizing each section separately by sorting like items together (all socks together, all polos together).

In some cases, your organization themes for your child's closet and storage space will reveal a simple reality: They need more space. At this point, you can call on our trusty team of closet experts, who will work with you to find the ideal custom closet setup for your child's increasing needs.

Mudroom or Entryway

Another important area during the school year is the mudroom, entryway, or whatever else you might call this area of the home. This is typically where kids leave items like backpacks and school materials, plus where they take off and put on their shoes.

Once again, take some time to clean and organize this area to prepare it for the wear-and-tear of the upcoming year. Again, though, you may notice that as your child gets older, this area has less and less available space -- and eventually, you may even reach a point where you consider installing new closets or other forms of storage space, an area where our team will be happy to assist you.
